Kool Kat Jade

Notes and Commentary

Jade

It's about time that I did this project, and I'm happy that I got around to doing it: "Kool Kat Jade." This was one of the most easiest Bratz Photography Projects I have ever done, and it's the type of project that any ordinary Bratz fan with a Bratz doll and a digital camera can do. The project took approximately four weeks to complete — the same amount of time it took to capture the first photo in the previous Bratz Photography Project I did, "Too Funky For Kumi." And after what I endured with that project, it feels good to have done a project as simple as this one.

One of the reasons why "Kool Kat Jade" was completed in such a short amount of time was because a majority of the photography was shot inside my house. Only two photos were shot outdoors. But, like all the previous Bratz Photography Projects before it, I wanted to aim for something much higher and produce something that Bratz fans would enjoy. After "Too Funky For Kumi," I retired my Kodak EasyShare CX6230 Digital Camera and replaced it with a more versatile digital camera, the Kodak EasyShare V550 Digital Camera. "Kool Kat Jade" is the first Bratz Photography Project to utilize this digital camera, and I'm sure that it will not be the last. This digital camera produced some of the most outstanding images I have captured of any Bratz Photography Project I have done so far, and I know that for the next Bratz Photography Project I do it will produce even better images of my Bratz dolls.

"Kool Kat Jade" was conceived in the summer of 2004, when I did the first Bratz Photography Project "The Bratz Have Arrived." Furthermore, Bratz Funk Out! Jade was originally the doll that I was going to use for the project. However, because of the project "Funkin' Out Fianna," "Kool Kat Jade" was shelved for over a year. Yet, there was one photo from that project I remember capturing, and I knew that this photo would give me an idea on what I wanted to accomplish for "Kool Kat Jade": It was the photo of Fianna and Jade laying down on a bed of M&M's candies. I remember when I captured this photo, it was one of my most favorite photos in all the Bratz Photography Projects that I have done. So, what I did in "Kool Kat Jade" was update the Fianna-Jade M&M's photo by capturing a photo of both my Bratz Treasures Jade doll and my Bratz Midnight Dance Fianna doll laying down on a bed of Mega M&M's Candies. This updated Fianna-Jade M&M's photo is even better than the original photo I captured, and it was my Midnight Dance Fianna doll which determined that Bratz Treasures Jade would be represented for "Kool Kat Jade."

Of course, I didn't want to devote the entire project to my Bratz Treasures Jade doll. Since most of the photography for this project was shot at my house, one of the ideas that I developed was to include guest appearances from the other characters in the Bratz Treasures collection and use my imagination to pose the dolls from that collection in any manner that I wanted. For instance, I captured a photo featuring Yasmin, Cloe, Sasha, and Jade, the original four members of the Bratz Pack. I also included a photo of Jade and Roxxi, as well as one with Jade and Cloe. And the two outdoor photos of my Bratz Treasures Jade doll were a reminder of the traditional photos of my Bratz dolls that I had been accustomed to capturing.

This project was unlike any of the previous Bratz Photography Projects that I have done. It was one of those projects where I wanted to do something different, but the project itself was not really anything special. I'm satisfied with how the photos and the video slideshow in "Kool Kat Jade" turned out, but considering that this project took four weeks to complete, I admit that this project does not live up to the standard of my previous Bratz Photography Projects. I do not consider "Kool Kat Jade" a disappointment, but I do not consider this project to be one of the most memorable. And the response to this project from Bratz fans was understandable, since they seemed to express the same sentiment I had toward it — that is, they liked it, but they didn't love it. However, I'm glad that "Kool Kat Jade" is completed, and now I can look forward to my next Bratz Photography Project. But if I look back on "Kool Kat Jade" a year from now, I probably will not remember that this was a project I ever did.
